I'm going to sew a top for my daughter, NL 6216 (view B). The smallest size is an 8 which gives a finished busy measurement of 36.5" her FB measurement is 32". It's a knit top so certainly doesn't require 4" of ease and especially not on her small frame (HB measures 30.5"). Front and back are cut on the fold. Can I just allow the "excess" to hang over the fold, this making the pattern smaller??

The top is designed to be oversized. You'll probably have problems with the shoulder width if you do that. Maybe you should pick something that's more fitted.

Yeah I wondered that. She's a picky 15 year old and this was one of few patterns that she liked in my stash :)

Thanks

What about the Kirsten Kimono Tee? It's kind of similar, and I see you've made it for yourself. It would look cute on a 15 year old.

I thought the same thing! She turned her nose up at the kimono tee but then asked for the NL pattern. I said, hmmm. This looks REALLY similar. I bet she wouldn't even notice the difference. She probably just didn't want the "same" shirt as mom ;)

Sew it up in a completely different fabric and see how she likes it? Teenagers!

When younger and into their teens, my daughters would always look at the fabric portrayed on the pattern (not the actual pattern) to decide if they liked it or not...all my explanations that the one I would make would be a different fabric of their choosing was just too much to understand...thank goodness they understand the concept now...:)
