That advice is nearly the opposite of what I do. I might make sure the bed is made, dog is walked, and maybe dishes done before I settle in. That is because I am anal and can't stand looking at the clutter... it drives me nuts!!!

But if someone drops over unexpectedly they do so at their own peril. Odds are I don't even answer the doorbell!!

Whew, I'm so glad this is from 1949. You scared me for a minute.

If I were sitting there thinking that much about my appearance, I'd be so nervous I couldn't enjoy doing anything. Relaxing in front of my sewing machine would be the last thing on my mind.

I saw a really funny version of this.

The advice to 'never buy a sewing machine with a mirror in it' cracks me up!
And NOPE I don't sew with my machine in the sink OR on the bed, so dirty dishes and unmade beds are no problem. (why bother making beds? You are only going to un-make it in a few hours! What a pointless task!)

I like "Now" much, much better. Especially the "What?" which is what I said when I read the need for the "little bag of French chalk".

I tend to do the old version, but *I* feel better and can sew better when I have a clean house and I look decent.

As to the french chalk, I am gonna assume this is the crap I got in an old notion lot in a pretty bag that acts a lot like chalk at a pool hall (taking in the era, no A/C means sweaty prints on textiles).

Yep roflmao and this has happened in my house not that long ago. Sewing in PJ's is my fav thing to do early Sat and Sun when I can
