It has been 28 years since I've had a Singer...so after recently getting a used Singer 9420 from Good Will which did not have a single bobbin I was surprised when I bought class 66 plastic bobbins to find Singer makes class 66 plastic bobbins that are not the same size. The larger ones are imprinted with the name Singer and the smaller ones are not...but they are in a typical Singer package and purchased just last week so I don't think they were old in the package and maybe shrunk from aging...or were an old manufactured "style"...they are labeled class 66.

The size difference is enough that the smaller ones do not fit well in the bobbin case. They are a bit shorter and not as wide (as seen in a horizontal bobbin case). Being less wide seems to make the most difference as that makes them rattle when sewing because they shift from side to side in the bobbin case.

The larger ones that are imprinted Singer fit better in the bobbin case.

The manual did state to use "transparent" bobbins without stating a size...so I looked online for what the right size would be which is class 66.

Initially I got Singer class 66 plastic bobbins (what turned out to be the smaller ones). When those did not fit right...I got a pack of Singer class 66 metal bobbins...which appeared to fit but the thread did not unwind smoothly with those.

Eventually got the next pack of Singer class 66 plastic bobbins (the Singer imprinted ones) because even in the package they looked a bit larger...and they are...and they fit and unwind the thread smoothly.

Anyone else notice a difference in size in Singer class 66 bobbins?

DH eye tumor is starting to shrink! Yipee!! This is very good news.
My kid brother had a triple bypass ..he made it.through the surgery okay. Please keep him in your prayers. A long road to recovery ahead, as more heart issues found. Still so glad he is okay.

Oh...thank you...but as mentioned in my post I did get bobbins that fit...the ones imprinted with the name Singer fit perfectly.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed the difference between plain Singer class 66 bobbins and Singer class 66 bobbins with the name Singer imprinted on them.

The curiosity of this I had to look at my latest Janome bobbins... no words that I could see. Good question though. .... now I wonder too if maybe Touch N Sew bobbins would have Singer on them since they are larger ???? Oh Miss Fairchild any news on Touch N Sew bobbins??

Genuine Janome bobbins have a J imprinted on the inside of the bobbin "stem" that is visible from the outside...but may need to hold the bobbin up to a light to see the J well enough. I know for certain that your Janome Cherry Blossom Pink bobbins have a J on each one.

On another thread today I learned from beauturbo the difference between Class 15 and Class 15 J bobbins...and Class 15 J bobbins are certainly NOT the same as Janome bobbins with the imprinted J on the inside of the "stem".

Last week I called juki.com/america with some questions about the juki 27Z...one question was what bobbin does it use (not stated in its online pdf manual) and the rep said just a plastic bobbin. I said which plastic bobbin...there are probably a dozen...named a few...class 66...class 15...class 15 J...SA 155...SA 156...then she said class 15.

I should have just asked that question on the juki thread...PR owners of a juki or more would know the right answer!!

Yes. The first ones I bought from the Singer notions at JA would not fit the bobbin winding pin. I have a Rocketeer and the ends of the bobbin spool have to be smooth and slightly concave for the top thread to feed across and pick up the bobbin thread.

It took a bit of searching before I found what I needed. Just cannot remember when, what or where!

That's how it goes...although seems like all the searching would be branded in memory forever...but no...it's soon replaced by another burning issue. Sort of like putting something up in a "safe place"...then not remembering where that safe place is!
