Does anyone have a step-by-step tutorial on how to sew something like a men's suit jacket? It seems complicated, and all the talk of linings and pleats and piping is like a foreign language to me (I mean, I know what they are and what their purpose is, but I'm not quite sure how and when they fit into the construction of a suit jacket.) I'm a quick learner, so it shouldn't be a problem for me, once I get a sense of what I'm doing.

Craftsy have a coat making class with Kenneth King that might help you make a start.

You might also want a book. There are some affordable titles on tailoring jackets in the Half Price Books Marketplace: http://www.hpbmarketplace.com

There is an excellent book that goes into great detail called Vintage Couture Tailoring by Thomas von Nordheim.

Take the unlined Jacket class on PR -- then I'd dive into a good pattern like Vogue and just cut the muslin out and wrangle with that!

Kenneth would be a fab class to take as well!

Good luck

This book has been so helpful to me:
Tailoring classic guide

I have an earlier edition but that is very expensive now. Have heard the other book (first link) is the same. It shows 3 ways of constructing a jacket: custom (hand stitched, pad stitched collar, using hair canvas for example), machine method (using hair canvas but sewn by machine) and the fusible interfacing method.

In the jackets I made in the past years I often used combinations of the techniques. I think these techniques would help you sew men's jackets too.

Thanks everyone for providing such great resources! I was always confused about the lining/facing aspect of jacket construction. I'll look into getting myself some books on the subject. I have a lot of studying to do!

I have the earlier edition too and it's a great book for tailoring. Menswear is a little different but this is a good starting point
