Just substitute fabric and thread for food.

Hoarding for stockpiling?

Not really the same.. fabric doesn't spoil.. It does go out of date though..

Which is why one should hoard machines instead.. Although they go out of date.. they still have resale value..

I like your thinking, I have been investing/stockpiling all my adult life for my retirement!!!!!Now that I have one year to "senior", I find that all the 11 machines and a wall (not joking)! of fabric, are not the most important things in my future, and now I need to figure out what is, and will be

The only "food" I stockpile is water and coffee! Fabric is very necessary to hoard (along with cats but that is another story LOL). Yes while it may not be in "style" and become vintage, quilters can cut it up and no-one knows that a 22 year old fabric is in a modern quilt!

I do know people that keep the long-term food packs "in case" kind of like the bunker folks. Guess ones that live in the USA (other than Hawaii or Alaska) we have much more freedom and variety at grocery stores, I don't know why people would hoard food? Do you think as the author said her friend went through WWII that has something to do with it? Depression babies, grown up now have the need to stockpile?

We went through a rather bad suprise snow storm in the mid 90's we were stuck in for a week, very little food with a small child, around October I start buying some extra non-perishable stuff and have stuff on hand for my bread maker.
