I saw a Craigslist listing for a "like-new" Pfaff 1540, and the seller is asking $750 for it. I have not yet contacted the seller, so I have no idea if it is truly like new or gently used, etc. (People's interpretations of these things vary.) Anyway, assuming it's in good shape and has all the parts, is this a fair price? Is there anything I should look out for if I go to try out the machine in person?

I've only ever used my mom's hand-me-down machines, and she never owned a Pfaff. I would be grateful for any advice as I try to rekindle my sewing skills.

Pfaff 1540 runs at about $400 in these parts. $750 seems way too high to me.

Most of all, I heart Woo (HimmyCat). Until we meet again, my beautiful little boy. I love you.

Thanks so much, LynnRowe! I was wondering as the listing says she paid $1200, but newer editions of the Select series don't go for that much. But I don't know anything about the different models, other than that I've seen good reviews on that machine.

I'm not sure, but I believe they sold for about that price when new quite a few years ago. That $1200 could have been MSRP, but dealers weren't selling them for anything close to that. The Ambition 1.0 has quite a lot more to offer w/ IDT and I believe you could buy one for close to the same price. The new Select (current mechanical) is around $600 I think and the new Pass-Port is about the same. Agree, $400 is much more realistic for the 1540.

Thanks, Sewfrequent! I'm going to head to a local Pfaff dealer this afternoon and noodle around with some of the new machines.

I paid $500.00 for my 1530 about 7 years ago and that was a good deal. It's made in Europe, I believe the newer ones are made in Asia.
