So I have some CUTE fun fur in a blue and in a pink pattern, and I wanted to make coats for our own little boy (will be 2 in Jan), my friend's baby due this month (girl) and my other friend's little girl they are just adopting who was 2 in June (and people really tend not to give you "new baby" gifts when you adopt).

I have Butterick 5584 and I have it in the L/XL which should be OK for my own little boy. But although I could get another copy of that in the smaller size for the new baby girl, I'd probably want to make Small I think rather than NB or Medium, I am really struggling to find anything in a 2 1/2 to 3yo size and I don't want to risk making the just-2-yo size which the XL really is.

Any pointers for this kind of pattern? I'm not too confident drafting a hood to go on another pattern but can do zips/buttons etc.

And are there any with a range of sizes (of course, they wouldn't sell so many patterns would they? silly question!)? From baby up to toddler preferably because obviously none of the kids are going to get smaller!

I've used the Onion patterns for kids jackets in fleece, including very young kids, and I like them a lot. You can check out reviews here, and I believe the website is www.shoponion.com. they are in Danish, but come with English instructions, and are guaranteed unique....

Oh they are nice! Only go down to 6 mo though. But I can definitely see some must-have patterns.

My kids are a bit past toddler stage, being in their thirties , but I held on to all the KwikSews I used for them when they were toddlers and elementary schoolers - hands down the best kids patterns that were on the market back then. Simple, professional-looking finishes and fit that rivaled RTW. If I were looking for a pattern now, I'd probably choose this one if I had good matching ribbing and this one if I needed to use contrasting finishes.
