I just made my first dress with my own drafted lining. It was fun, and I was happy with the result. I know most commercial patterns with a waistline seam instruct you to press up the seam allowance and slipstitch the bodice lining down onto it. However, the last dress I made, I attached the skirt lining to the bodice lining, and then stitched-in-the-ditch along the waistline to keep the lining in place (so it wouldn't ride up on the inside). Now I'm questioning if that's proper technique.

What's your favorite way to line dresses that have a waistline seam?

This is an interesting question. It made me think a minute about what I usually do. The last dress I made like this (Simplicity 2648) I did what you did and sewed the bodice lining to the skirt lining. I did not attach it to the waistline only down the back at the zipper. I like a lining that is free flowing (probably because I am old enough to remember full slips).

Ah good point, connecting it at the zipper should ensure that it won't "ride up" anywayI might unpick the seam at the waistline on the dress I made to see what happens.
