So discouraged with this machine

So...I have only had this machine for like 6 months. First, I have been having problems with the USB not recognizing the USB stick. I am sure that it is the USB connector in the machine because the computer recognizes the stick just fine. It is intermittent now, but I expect it will go altogether soon.

Today, however, I am ready to throw this machine out the window. I put names on 3 shirts last night. Everything went fine. Today, I am trying to put names on 3 more shirts and am having nothing but problems. The thing is, I am using the exact same thread, same type needle, exact same type of shirts and same stabilizer. The thread is shredding horribly. I can't get through a letter without breakage! I have changed the needle 3 times, cleaned out the bobbin area 4 times, threaded and rethreaded a hundred times! With no dealer closer than 2 hours away, I am having serious regrets about this machine. At least with my 13 year old Brother, I could remove the panels and look to see if there was a problem in the thread path!

In which case I'll be little to no help, as I haven't had any thread-shredding issue on mine. Sounds like the top thread is catching on something, such as the thread spool cap.

Somebody else will have suggestions, hopefully!

ETA: one thing you can try, if you suspect there's thread fuzz in the tension discs, is to "thread" a strand of unwaxed dental floss through the machine. Pull it out from the needle thread guide and repeat a few times.

Definitely sounds like the thread is getting caught up somewhere.

I haven't had any thread shredding issue during embroidery with mine either. I did have a problem with shredding while FMQ, but a needle change (to a different kind of needle not just a fresh one of the same kind) solved the problem.

Did you try different thread? What about adjusting the tension? It sounds like there may be something stuck in the thread path, that stinks there are no dealers close to have it checked.

It does sound like a problem in the thread path, how frustrating! I have this machine as well and luckily haven't had any issues with embroidery. You could try a larger eye needle and maybe loosen the top tension a bit. You might try slowing the speed down also. I hope you get things sorted out

Maybe adjust the height of the presser foot to be lower ( closer to fabric), if you are using the 6A sensormatic foot?

If you are not using the USB stick that came with the machine, make sure that the stick doesn't have any software on it. Sometimes USB sticks have additional software and the machine won't read it.

Can you call your dealer and maybe troubleshoot over the phone?

I was having a similar shredding problem recently, along with frequent error messages to check the needle (when all looked OK with the needle). The design was very dense. An extensive cleaning, vacuuming, and tension adjustment took care of it. I was doing the same embroidery on my DDD and began to have similar problems. On that machine I just changed the thread portioning setting and all was well.
