Pendleton is having a sale on their fabric. There eco line is half off making it $30 a yard. Has anyone worked with this fabric. I'd like to make a cape for my daughters birthday the end of Sept. Is it thin, thick, needs a lining, doesn't need a lining? How about some of the other wool? Something better for a cape? How about for a skirt or jumper to go with the cape?

They don't take online orders for their fabric, but they do take call ins. I had a couple of girls tell me they would take pictures and send them, but, I think because of the sale, they are to busy.

I have not sewn with fabrics from the Eco line, so I can't really say, but I do believe it's fairly lightweight and would have to be lined for a cape, as would just about any other Pendleton wool you might choose. The exceptions would maybe be some heavy melton, and you would not line the blanket fabric.

If you can, I would suggest going to the store to shop during the September sale, and the earlier in the month the better. You can, of course, ask for swatches.

I've had better luck finding sale fabric at the mill outlet in Washougal, WA.

Thanks Mary! Melton is what I wanted, but when I called the woman who answered the phone said I would be happier with the eco line. I can't remember why, maybe it was because they didn't have a lot of colors in the melton or it was to thick?

Swatches? Why didn't I think of that?

It is killing me not to go down to the store, but it is three hours away and I'm not willing to pay gas. (That's what I keep telling myself every time I think about throwing my kids in the car).

So you think the melton is my best bet?

I'm googling Washougal right now.

I feel your pain about the drive. I'm also about three hours away, and Washougal is just east of Vancouver, so not much better. I usually only make it down there once a year, sometimes twice. The September sale is really nice. The mill outlet in Washougal had their sale in August, and fabric was $2.50/yd. I wasn't able to go, and it killed me, although I have enough Pendleton fabric in stash to reconstitute a herd of sheep. The mill outlet is hit or miss for fabric stock.

I live about 40 minutes from the mill store. I haven't been there for years and sort of forgot about them.

Thanks for the chuckle 'reconstitute a herd of sheep.' Good one!

Mary, you are so funny. I think I'll call and order some melton and have them send me a couple of swatches for future reference.

You must live up near me. We should carpool next sale.

I'm in Portland, maybe we could all meet at the Pendleton outlet.

I'd love to have a meet-up for Pendleton shopping, but I'm afraid it won't be for this year's sale. Maybe next summer.

That's a great idea!
