My stash though considerable doesn't seem to have much in the way of pants fabric for elastic waist pants. I'd like some cuts of both dress weight and a cotton rich fabric that would work in warm weather for casual. My day trip to a Hancock's yielded nothing in the fall colors or not much for pants. I have made two non stretch casual khaki tweaking the pattern and a dressier weight of brown out of stash junk but am wondering where one can order pants fabric. A blend wth a small stretch would be ok too i think.hI look at a few websites and don't really know what I am seeing. Anybody here have pant fabric suggestions and a source to order. Thanks for help with this.

I like the elastic that Kathy Ruddy sells. I always stock up when I see her at the sewing expo near Detroit

Kathy I am hunting some fabric for some big girl pants not the elastic. I have some big rolls of non roll from Newark catalog that I use for elastic. My waist and hips are (sigh) not much different inch wise as I get older so most any of it works for me now. I never dreamed finding pants fabric would be so hard but haven't one much fabric shopping for garments the past 10 years. I need everyday casual /dress type fabric as I can wear rtw petite pants for dress but would make some of those too in some basic colors if I find where to buy it. There is a Joann's that I can take a road trip to if anyone is having luck there. I'm just wondering where people are finding their pants fabric for the pull on pants. Thanks for the tip on the elastic will check into that.

Silhouette Patterns has 2" elastic in black & white. Peggy recommends that for smaller width just cut it into what you need. Saves storing several widths in your stash!

I bought some pants fabric at Gorgeous Fabrics (get the knit fabric medium weight) I think it is the RPL - rayon/poly/lycra blend...- also check out mood fabrics, emma one sock, christine jonson and marcia tilton websites (they sell good quality pants fabric too)
Good luck..

My go-to elastic waist pants fabric is Sophia by Logantex. The fiber content is 67% Polyester/30% Rayon/3% Spandex. One source is Fabric.com. Ponte is another name for this type of fabric. This type of fabric comes in many fiber combinations. I've even seen nylon mixed in with the other fibers.

Hadn't thought of any of these-will investigate. Maybe I should ask over on the plus section also. What good is a pants pattern for elastic waist pants if one can't find fabric. I have loads of fabric just not a lot suitable for slacks on hand. I do have some but not some basic selection for everyday dressy casual type wear. I've lived in rtw capris this summer and some dress slacks and have lot of pull on jeans for cooler weather but would like some variety and some slightly nicer sacks for week day shopping and going places if that makes any sense as to what I am hunting. I really don't know the names of some of these fabrics for ordering or where to look. I used to be able to just go in the Hancock's in driving range and find stuff. Ours seems to be all craft, furniture, fleece and quilt fabrics now.

Thanks Judy that is helpful. I probably didn't make myself clear when I posted that I was hunting fabric for pants. Between spell check and a brain fog I am not real clear with my post. Off to look at Sophia and the pointe selections. Some of my rtw pants are made of a crinkly looking cotton blend that would probably work too if I sewed it but don't know what that is called. What I own in stash is too thin for pants.

RPL works well for elastic waist pants. I just got some of this crepe variety from Mood if you are looking for black. They have some other neutrals that look like they are twills instead of crepe, like this one in moss.

Vogue Fabrics has a similar crepe for a little less than Mood, the crepe couture. They also have stretch gabardine.

I found RPL's to be ok in summer heat in Virginia. Not what I would garden or work at home in but perfect for nicer wear.

I am really out of touch. Is fabric really $11.98 a yard for pants weight now? Obviously I haven't been buying fabric for a really long while. I was thinking more in the $5 per yard range ,maybe not facing reality here. My goodness fabric has really gotten pricey while I was off in the machine embroidery world and not making garments much Lol!
