I'm in love with this Eileen Fisher Jacket. It's got that moto vibe but is in a fabric that is compatible with the warm weather here in South Florida. Any ideas where similar fabric can be found? The $300 price tag is a little much.......

I seem to recall somebody here (?) posting a tutorial for waxing your own cotton, if that's something that appeals to you (in case your search doesn't turn out). A quick Google search turned up a few things, including this tutorial.

...La Maison Stragier in Belgium sells it. Top quality, they mill most of their fabrics. You have to email for price and shipping. But I'm sure you could find this in NY. If anyone knows, I'm interested too.

In the latest Vogue Patterns there is a blurb about Otter Wax...otterwax.com.
It looks so interesting I plan on ordering some myself.

Here is a link for waxed canvas fabric. I have never used it nor do I know anything about this company. I have looked before because I think waxed canvas would make nice bags.

"Fabric: 80% Cotton/18% Resins/2% Spandex. Care: Machine wash cold separately before wear and after. Waxed look will become less pronounced over time and washing. No bleach. Lay flat to dry; do not tumble dry. Color transfer may occur with wearing and washing."

There is a huge big discrepancy how many different web sites all over the internet are describing and trying to sell that very same jacket, as to it's fabric content, probably just by whomever keys that stuff in for different on line stores. Your place did not bother to put in any fabric content, but lots of others did. I would tend to believe the ones that had the fabric content and by textile percentages of it in there actually, just since I think they were better at it, and more on the ball in their keying and data entry, and most likely got that info either from something they got from the manufacturer, or maybe someone was just reading it off the real tag, hanging in the jacket.

But some note it's stretch fabric and some don't. I would believe the stretch part, just because of the 2% spandex in there. The best and most complete description I could find is above, if that helps you at all.

I noticed Helmut Lang is using it here too, with exact textile percentages, maybe he really has the same stuff from the same place? They call the 2% stretch there elastane and not spandex, but I think that might be just by country of origin the item might be made in or planning to be sold at, and really the same thing and same fabric. It's here too:

jacket

They call it glazed, and they probably are more right than waxed, just because wax goes into something and I think resin maybe would sit more on top of it. Have not seen that kind fabric at Joann's or Hancocks Fabric stores where I shop, but I have sort of in lots of "glazed looking" and finished real tight straight leg jeans some places.

We discussed waxing your own denim here:

waxing cloth

...I did a bit of it for a costume. It did make the coat fabric seem heavier and stiffer. To actually get the leatherish look, though, I believe you'd need a lot of time and a lot of wax.

Good info! That Helmut Lang jacket is even more expensive than the one I found. I guess for this type of fabric a jacket needs less laundering so the finish will remain longer. The color transfer is of concern, however.
