I went to the Pfaff dealer today to drool over the Performance 5.0, and then they suggested I consider the Creative 3.0 if I was interested in embroidery at all, because it's nearly the same machine. I've been thinking about getting a cheaper stand alone embroidery machine for making costumes, so needless to say I'm tempted! (I only have space for one machine, a stand alone would have to live in storage somewhere and that's a pain).

I've been going over the comparison charts and the 3.0 only seems to be missing a few features from the 5.0, like straight stitch plate sensor and fewer stitches (I don't use many anyway). But I can't find any reviews or threads about the Creative 3.0 here, does anyone own it or have any thoughts on how it compares to the Performance 5.0? Thanks!

Hmm, the Performance 5.0 seems so popular here, strange that there's so little on the Creative 3.0. I hope it's not a dud! Maybe this should've gone in the embroidery forum, but I'll mainly be using it as a garment sewing machine, the embroidery is a nice bonus. I'll be taking another look at it next weekend in any case.

It's not a dud, no worries there. Most people sew, not machine embroider, and for sewing with tons of features at an incredibly reasonable price, the P5.0 is insanely good.

For serious machine embroiderers, they're going to go for the Sensation or are waiting on the new Creative Pro.

For those who want both options, they already own or are lusting after the PCP.

IMO the reason there hasn't been much talk over the 3.0 is a combination of the above, plus the huge lust over the 5.0 and the seriously great sell-out price right now on the Sensation.

Try them all and see which one you prefer. Which is all that really matters.

Thanks Lynn! I AM mainly interested in sewing, which is why my big worry is sacrificing sewing features just to dabble in embroidery. I've been studying all these feature and comparison charts and the 3.0 doesn't seem to be missing anything major, but I've been miserable with every sewing machine I've bought so far so I don't really trust myself to make the right choice now I guess I can always exchange it...

I was scared to even look at the Sensation or PCP, I'm guessing great sell-out price still means way out of my budget. Is the Creative Pro a new replacement for the Sensation?

Is the P5 really the sewing only version of the Creative 3.0? In the same sense that the Bernina 820 is the sewing only version of the 830?

That's how the salesperson described it to me. I'd just finished test driving the P5 and she said if I liked that but I was also interested in embroidery, I should consider the Creative 3.0. When I asked about the differences she only mentioned no maxi stitches on the Creative, but after reading all the websites and brochures I found a few more like no knee lift and no straight stitch plate sensor on the Creative. So it seems like the differences run a bit deeper than just an embroidery add-on to the P5, which is why I was concerned. I felt a bit like I was being pushed towards the more expensive model without being given enough information about features I'd miss from the P5. I'll see if I can find out more next time (but I find these stores more intimidating than asking here!)

No maxi stitches (which you want; those suckers are gorgeous and the very best on the market!) means no sideways directional stitching.

If you really think you want embroidery down the road, I'd suggest the PCP, machine-only. Otherwise, go for the Performance 5.0.

The Creative 3.0 sounds like a compromise on both sewing and embroidery sides, perfect for someone who wants to dabble in both areas.

I believe that there are more differences, I know that it does not have the maxi stitches, not sure if it has the tapering, I did not really looked at the PC3. I am surprised that it does not have the straight stitch plate sensor, but it should at least have a strait stitch safety setting. There are videos on Youtube posted by Village Sewing, check them out.

Thanks Kaktiki. That video confirms the Creative does have tapering, and made them sound quite similar (I was nodding off during the P5 one because he was literally repeating the same sentences). Too bad neither of them offer a direct comparison, but I love how in depth they are!

I'll definitely have a look at the PCP next time, but I'm not sure if I'd use the maxi stitches, at least not enough to justify blowing my budget by thousands (I didn't want to spend more than $2000, but that already went out the window pretty fast ).

I've been looking at this chart http://www.pfaff.com/global/images/content/creative3.0/comparison_chart_creative_line_ENG.pdf and I don't see any embroidery features on the TOL models I couldn't live without, but I'm still just learning about embroidery. One thing I know is I'm more interested in creating my own designs on my computer, so I'm hoping that means I'll need less on-board editing features and built in stitches/designs.

Hopefully spending more time with the machines on the weekend and knowing more specific questions to ask now will help me make up my mind!
