I have black/red/white plaid I want to make the marlene trouser again with (I've had the plaid from BEFORE the Project Runway episode, just waiting their turn!!) and have just discovered a forgotten red/black fleck (looks dark red) knit that would make a nice top and work pretty ok with the trouser. Yippee!

After much consideration I like the idea of a fairly fitted long sleeved top from the knit, possibly a slight cowl neck, and a sleeveless open, cardi type to wear over the top. I know I've bypassed some of these cardi patterns in the past while browsing so must go on the lookout again... the ones with the draped fronts might be nice?? What do you think?? I'm slightly worried about how the edges are done though, easy-ish would be good, not a lot of knit experience here.

I do have a cowl top pattern I could use, if there's a pattern for just the cardi. Or perhaps there is a pattern with both the top and cardi together. I'm going to start going through my collection of Burda magazines then hit the pattern companies, also maybe see if there's any free tutorials that are easy to follow.... Any suggestions welcome, even if they differ from my tops idea, but the trouser WILL happen LOL

I'm still finishing up a top from Burda July (127), and have leggings cut out to wear with, so while I'm always impatient I do have a bit of time :)

thanks!

I would suggest ..... StyleArc ...... I am sure I have seen a top/cardi design in their newsletters.

Their Harper jacket looks nice, sortof what I was thinking of though it has sleeves. I'll read further....

The E vest from The Sewing Workshop goes together quickly, works with a variety of knits and fits your criteria.
