Sandra has a class that is specifically about fitting pants while Linda has a general fitting class. Has anyone taken one or both? My immediate need is for pants fitting but I also want to fit a sheath dress so that's why Linda Maynard's class would be an attractive option if she's dong pants too.

I've done both. Betzina is strictly pants and Maynard is a dress.

Maynards class will also pertain to tops, jackets etc. Basically anything that's above the waist but she also covers fitting the skirt portion.

IMHO I'd take the Maynard class. She covers fitting on different body shapes and sizes so you can see what various fit problems look like and how to fix them.

Betzina covers how to measure and alter the pattern to fit your body. She briefly shows a few people in bad fitting pants and says she'd do this or that but never takes you through the steps needed on the pattern to correct for them. If you have a copy of Pant fit for real people you'll get more from that than you will the Betzina class. I was disappointed in this class, honestly.

What simply stitches said. IMO Betzina is just ... okay ... at fitting in general. If your fit issues are simple, then it might meet your needs. The Palmer/Pletsch book on pants fitting will be a better investment. Lynda Maynard's class is very thorough.

Thanks! That's very good information. I'll go with Lynda's class.

Thanks, Doris. Your and Simply Stitches made me remember some things I had heard about Sandra's classes at Stone Mountain. She's great at what she does which I think may be more toward the designing end of things.

Check out Silhouette pattern's web site. Peggy has any number of video's on pants fitting and they are free.

Lynda Maynard's class is excellent but does not cover pants fitting. I am hoping that Craftsy will have her do a pants fitting class.

Ooh, that would be awesome. I've done a class in person with Linda. Hmmm, I wonder where that muslin is? I wonder what size I was? :)

I did Sandra's fitting class and it was ok. I had at that stage, been on a mission for pants fit for about 2 years. Somewhere around the time when I did Sandras class, one of our Sewing Guild members asked me to take her measurements for the Surefit pants sewing system. As I thought it was going to be fairly time consuming task, we set aside a day to get together and do this amongst a few other things.

The measurements were suprisingly simple.

The member (who hadn't sewn for years) and knew very little about fitting, produced a near perfect pair of pants on her flat bottom and plus size.

I was so impressed that I ordered the Pants kit and produced the same result. I have used so many patterns and fitting techniques and wish I had known how good the Surefit is.

So, I suppose in reply to your question I think I would do Linda's class as I think you will benefit more with her fitting skills.

I was less than impressed with the Betzina class, because the pants used are princess seamed anyway. If I wanted (or, more accurately, if DH wanted) pants with a seam down the front, it wouldn't take a fitting class to figure out the way to compensate for his hockey thighs is to add to that seam- it's regular pants that are the issue, and making my own pattern like that is seriously time consuming.

You are the second person that's mentioned the SureFit system to me recently. I've looked into it before but always decided not to go buy it mostly because I don't have anyone to take my measurements.
