I have a favorite t-shirt that has a drawstring running vertically between the boobs, creating a ruched effect sort of like this ruched front shirt. I'm looking for a pattern to make a similar one. Any ideas?

I did a review ages ago for a tank top from Simplicity 5593 which has this kind of look - in this case it's simply made by gathering to a piece of elastic. That pattern looks OOP, though.

This seems like the kind of vibe that Lekala would have - might be worth looking through their catalog and see if you find anything. Also, it'd be relatively easy to draft yourself - start with a basic t-shirt pattern, and cut slashes from CF and spread them all out the amount you want, either all the way down the shirt front or just in the neckline-to-bust area.

I think you are talking about an effect like that seen on sleeves sometimes, right? Where they sew a rectangle to the WS with three seams to make two channels for straps?

That means, IMO, that you need a pattern that makes provisions for CF gathers or ruching like NL6977

You would then replace the CF gathers by that casing thing I mention above.

Unless you can alter a pattern for that look. Another option would be to add a CF seam to an Empire line top.

Yes! Exactly what you said. How is the gathering in this top done? I'm not wedded to the tie-up ruching, just the general look.

You use a narrow piece of elastic, stretching as you sew it on the wrong side. A scoop neck will become a sweetheart like the top you pictured without having to add any extra length to it.
