I have only been sewing a few years on a POS simplicity, which I dislike...a lot...I don't think I can even convey through words how frustrating this machine is. Anyway that is not the point of this, I am looking for a better machine. I have come across the Janome master craft 6500 for $350. For $50 more I can get the OTT floor magnifying light, table, and a wall hanging rack with thread. Do you think I should make this purchase? Also I'm a big scardey cat and am having anxiety about testing this machine out, its a private home sale. Should I just ask them to make a button hole for me? I have read that is one of the things to test?
Thank you
Michele

Yes, you should buy that now, today, you should already be in the car on the way over.

The sell for about $1200 new and the cheapest I have seen them used is about $600.

I don't know if the magnifying light is worth it and what kind of table would make the difference, if it is the Janome set in table built for the 6500 and 6600 then yes you NEED to buy that as well, they go for $600 new.

Why be anxious, just test some of the stitches and listen for any strange sounds.

OK thanks! I thought it seemed like a steal when I did a little research also, but I just wanted to make sure.
So I should take my own fabric with? I'm just scared because I have never even seen in person such a fabulous machine, so its really intimidating to me! I feel like I won't even be able to get it to sew a straight stitch LOL

I would bring my own fabric, most sewest have things ready to test when selling but it is better to be prepared.

If it doesn't make a strait stitch it is the machine not you.

I own the memory craft 6600, which is the same machine except mine has a built in even feed foot and the 6500 requires an attachment. I paid $1300.

$350 is the bargain of the century if it is working. Ask them why they're selling the machine. By all means include all the extras they're offering for $50.

Good luck!

OK great thanks...I'm so excited! This last half hour at work is torture! It almost sounds like this person is getting out of sewing completely, they had an embroidery machine also up for sale. So it sounds like they are just selling their whole sewing room. I will let you guys no how it goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

$350???? Is this for an actual Janome Memory Craft 6500 that's either dark blue and white or lavender and white? I bought mine used for $500, and they go upwards of $1,300 new.

Don't ask them to make a buttonhole for you; make it yourself, but read those pages carefully. There is a difference between each of the five buttonhole settings and how they are made. Also, try the Mode 3 stitches and see if they look like they should (not per the screen but per the book, which they hopefully have) And try saving a few stitches to the memory; that's a very helpful tool! I can't believe this machine is so low. Report back, would you?

I have a Memory Craft 6500, and she is a dream machine. I paid $500 for mine, and she was a massive bargain. Here in Australia, the going 2nd hand price is around $800-$1000. And as said before, if its the custom table with the drop in space for the machine, then you must get that too. It makes sewing with the machine even more of a dream.
