have all the problems been solved with the new Bernina 780? i remember talk of either the 630 or the 730 having overheating problems. i think it was the 630. i was offered a demo 730 or a new 780. i'm leaning towards a 730(if it does not have the overheating problem). i'd like to hear all pros & cons on both. i'm looking for a hassle free machine that does a magnificent straight stitch.

No overheating problems on my 630 - just happily sews along. I don't know about the 730.

I have a 630 with no overheating problems that I'm aware of. I also owned a 730 (for less than a year). The bed of the machine used to get very warm when the machine was embroidering.

I was never aware of overheating issues so I'll defer to others... that said I think these two machines are like comparing apples/oranges - both fruit but quite different. The 730 is tried and true and well loved by many, I found it perfectly reliable when we carried them, stitched just perfectly, I didn't care for the slower windows based operating system but it was fine with many. The 780 is bigger with a great screen and newer, I would want a good reliable amicable and very supportive dealer for it. Either way I'd say try them both to get a feel for how they sew, feel size and operation wise. No matter what anyone says if one just doesn't "feel" right to you on what you like to so - it's not right for you!

I'm another lover of my 730. She is a very well behaved girl.

If I remember right, there were a few of the 200s that had the overheating problem. I, too, have had a 730 for years with no such problems. That said, I have and use and love the 830. The 730 is the last of the Artista line.

The 780 is a completely different machine than the 730. I would go and try the 780 out before making a decision because the interface, etc. is way different from the 730. HTH.
