My DD has asked me to make my 2 DGD's ages 10 & 14 and they share the same bedroom...twin size quilts with Parisian themed fabrics...soft turquoise blues, grays, creams and black. And she would also like one of the fabrics to have Parisian words all over it... Finding the fabrics should not be that much of a challenge...I can only hope...

What has me stomped is a quilt pattern...one that fits their ages...maybe an upbeat more modern type pattern than the usual traditional ones... Is there such a thing as a Parisian quilt block... I am really scratching my head with this one... HELP...PLEASE.

Thank you...Cheryl

parisian quilt pattern

This is an example of what I found when I typed in Parisian quilt pattern in a search engine. Have fun looking around at patterns.

I am a Quilter at heart. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Recently I have discovered I enjoy doing applique. I love making pictures. Using a sewing machine is much easier than counted cross stitch or oil painting for me. I enjoy landscape quilting as well. I am working on my first applique project in the spring of 2014.

Cheryl - Here's a link to a twin bed quilt - Easy

Made one with my 14 year old Grandson using a variety of musical fabrics - Bet the strips could have the Parisian words or theme on it and look modern yet elegant?

Fabric Letters From Paris

Maybe modern, with solid squares surrounded by Parisian fabric squares? With one pink poodle square per quilt?

I like Parisian too.

Could do one each, then they're the same color tones but different patterns.

Love the fabric suggestions - although it is too bad it doesn't have a bit more colour in it (my preference).

I know it is smaller quits (twin beds) but I would go for larger squares, making it feel more modern, With larger squares, you will also show off more of the French themed fabric. (Also much less piecing.)

I haven't looked so I am winging it here.... but perhaps an quit block with a Paris themed something in the center might work. For example the Eiffle Tower (set wonky or tumbling - not straight but not on point) framed by the colours you want to use. You could even use a crazy quilt influence to frame the centers and/or create the blocks. Another block could be a French poodle, another a café au lait and croissant, etc - you get the idea. You could use just a few of these larger blocks to really set of the French theme. Also, you wouldn't have to do appliqued blocks but IMHO applque does introduce the possibility of more texture, more colour and even fabrics other than cotton. For example, the poodle could be done in flannel, minky, or a felted wool for example. If the girls are old enough, some of the blocks could be embellished with some beading, decorative stitches or whatever suits.

You also might want to have a look at the children's book series called Madeleine and get some inspiration from that. When I was a young girl around that age, nothing screamed French and Paris more to me than these books.

This could be really fun!! Good luck.

You picked the right time to make quilts like that - there are a lot of Paris fabrics right now,

There is the "Sweet Serenade" Quilt fabric by Basic Grey in cream, black, turquoise, peach and it is lovely. There is an Eiffel tower on the fabrics also.

Not a lot here, but scroll down to the charming little quilt with the iron fence detail.

Visualizing 'Madelne in Paris' bumping into a Marcy Tilton Parisian tour and the need to watch some Doris Day type sixties' movies with the funky little illustrated intros.
