Hi, everyone!

For Halloween, I'm making Simplicity 2072, the sailor view. I'm having a hard time fitting the bodice, though; I'm a 32DDD (Victoria's Secret sizing, so probably more like a DD). The bottom of the bodice doesn't come all the way down to my underbust, so I need to alter the pattern. I understand the concept of a FBA on a pattern that will either have tank sleeves or regular sleeves, but the strapless thing is throwing me for a loop.

Any suggestions as to how I should go about doing this? A photo of the pattern piece is attached!

Do you know how much you need to add?

I would make a copy of your pattern piece, and then make a horozonal line on the copy just above the dart all the way across the piece, cut on the line and add in a piece of paper x inches high which adds the length you need.

Create a muslin and then go from there on finalizng the fit. You may or may not need to then adjust the dart on your muslin, either in the length or width.

HTH

Another way to handle this problem is layer it over a pattern you do know how to fit. Matching the bust point and center front. Note that the side dart here is in the curve in the seam under the bust.
