I have an OOP pattern. The back bodice has no darts. I am pretty sure the original pattern-drafter eliminated the darts and added them into the pattern. The skirt piece is gathered. I want to add the back shoulder and waist dart back into the bodice. I know how to slash & spread/pivot darts. Just not how to add back darts that have been eliminated.

I’ve found no instructions other than this: http://surefitdesigns.blogspot.com/2012/09/adding-shoulder-dart.html?

But for the waist…? Would I use the same technique as delineated in the URL above?

The drafter didn't eliminate them, but left them unstitched and removed the fullness from the side seams. My question is what are you going to do with the fullness in the skirt portion? The gathering does contain a dart, although it's left unstitched and is part of the gathering.

If you want the back bodice dart as an effect, (because I'm guessing that with your username you want a more vintage look , but correct me if I'm wrong), make a vertical slash in the pattern from the bottom edge of the bodice to just below your shoulder blade and spread the amount you want the dart to be. Seriously, it's that simple.
