I found an AG doll for my niece at a garage sale and spent today, and probably tomorrow too restoring her :)

My niece loves Saige. Has lusted after her LOL but she isn't in the budget at.all.

I was hoping to make one little 9 year old very happy by giving her the doll in a Saige outfit. So when I saw niece over the weekend we paged through a catalog creating a wishlist. The draped sweater coat and jeans outfit just lit up her whole face.

http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/html/item/id/215879/uid/821?gclid=&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=saige%20sweater&utm_campaign=G_Saige_Products_Desktop&cm_mmc=CPC-_-Google-_-G_Saige_Products_Desktop-_-saige%20sweater

I have a libertyJane pattern for the jeans.

Can anyone suggest a pattern for the jacket or help me n modifying one. I am an intermediate sewer but have NO idea how to modify patterns.

ALL and any help will be very much appreciated by me. TIA

Lani

Maybe this one? It does not have the same waterfall as Saige's jacket but it is cute -
Slouch Cardigan

I have not tried this brand of pattern so have no further knowledge

Enjoy your sewing for dolls adventure.

If you have a pattern for anything that fits the doll...dress, blouse etc. simply extend the front piece straight out and it will fall as a waterfall. Hope that is of some help.
I have an old pattern for Simplicity 6768, pvt me if you think a pattern for 18" little girl doll would work.

I don't have anything with a one piece collar. I get the part about extending out but how do I avoid a collar seam?

If I buy the slouch jacket pattern can someone draft the correct extension and collar onto it for me?

Thanks

It seems to me that recently I read a review for an adult sized cardi where the collar was laid out on a fold (lengthwise, I think) so there would not be a back neck seam. Maybe you could try that? Then you could simply extend out the collar.

You might also consider watching for a sale and buying an adult size cardi with the waterfall collar so you could see what the pattern piece should look like.

Edited to add: On that pattern that was reviewed. the original pattern had a back neck seam and the person doing the review wanted to eliminate it. For a doll, it should be a lot less of an issue.

I don't mind a back neck seam but how do I avoid the collar to jacket attachment

You do no need a pattern with a collar, just a plain front and as I said before, extend the front neck straight out, so that it can fall into a waterfall front.
I cannot post a picture on this site (I do not know why), but I will email you one, if you would like.
