I've had nothing but trouble with this machine and it's only about a year and a half old.

The first problem I had was with the bobbin winder, which never winds the thread tight enough anyway. When winding the bobbin the needle would move up and down like the machine was sewing.

Second problem: the top thread got caught in the machine somewhere which threw off the tension and caused thread nests. Thread cutter is now sensitive and causes thread nests also.

Third problem: Due to the bobbin winder not winding the thread tight enough the end of the bobbin thread got caught in the needle and was pulled so tight that I smelled a slight burning smell from the machine.

I took the machine back to the dealer yesterday and they said it was fine. It's not. The straight stitch seems fine but not when I FMQ.

When I first bought this machine it free motion quilted beautifully. Now every time I make a quilt another problem comes up. I'm not sure what to do or how to handle the dealer.

Did you tell the dealer all three problems? Have you tested the machine in front of the tech?

My suggestion is to write (through the mail, registered or priority with del. confirmation) to Janome Customer Service. Give them all the details, including serial number, date purchased, dealer name, dates you took machine back to dealer to be fixed and what your dealer told you. Be polite, stick to the point and keep emotions out of it. You might want to request they fix the machine or replace it. They will not give you a refund since dealers are independent.

I had one of the first 7700's produced and it had numerous issues. It took 5 months of trying to work with my dealer, who hardly did anything. To make a very long story short, I sent a 6 page letter to Janome and the day they got it, I got a phone call from them telling me they were sending me a brand new 7700 in the box. Janome came through for me when my dealer would not. Needless to say, I sold it the same day I picked it to a good friend who knew all the details. She is a quilter and it FMQ's beautifully.

I hope you can get your 7700 fixed. It really is a good machine.

I had the same problems you did. I had bought my machine from Ken's in Muscle Shoals, AL. They were fantastic. After repairing the machine under warranty about 2 months after I bought it, they agreed to let me trade back to a 6600P which I'd sewn on for 8 years with no problems. I have a brand new 6600 now and I'm going to just stick with it.

Yes, every time the machine had a problem I took it to the dealer.

Although the dealer says it's fixed it has never free motion quilted like it did before the thread got caught in the machine.

Maybe I should take samples of before and after free motion quilting so they can see exactly what I'm talking about.

I think the tech at your dealer is the problem and doesn't know enough about how to fix it. Are they a Janome certified dealer with the proper training. I would do as someone suggested call Janome directly

Wow. I am so sorry you are having a hard time. I got one of the very first 7700's also and it has been one of the best machines I have ever owned. It is an absolute workhorse. As for the bobbin winding - I initially had the same issue but after re-reading the instructions I learned the "proper" way to wind a bobbin on this machine. Defintely contact Janome.

I am with Quiltingwolf on this one. I had no end of problems with my Pfaff QE4 and the tech was as little help as humanly possible. It wasn't until I got on Pfaff's Face Book page and stated my disappointment with the machine that things happened. Pfaff stood by it, fixed it. and now it works really well. A huge shout out to the tech guru for Pfaff in Vancouver, BC! And to Pfaff for standing by their product.

The dealer tech blamed every problem on me from my inability to understand how thread a sewing machine to how to actually sew properly. I would love to have a Janome but we only have the one Janome dealer in town (that sells Pfaff's too). As long as he is the only certified tech for Pfaff and Janome in my city; I am reluctant to buy either again as I NEVER want to have to deal with him again.

I say if you aren't getting any satisfaction from your dealer, go to Janome directly.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your machine. On the top left area there's a spot to tighten the amount of tension for bobbin winding. Not enough and they wind slopy and thread ends up underneath the bobbin while winding.. I wind bobbins at 1/2-3/4 speed especially on machines when I use a start stop button rather than a foot control. The problems you experiance with scisdors and free motion quilting could all be relaited to thread caught in the cutter mech and the straight stitch portion of the needle plate broken or chipped. Contact the dealer, ask if someone can sit with you to trouble shoot and book an appointment. Bring your own fabrics, threads, exact needle you use. If you use a certain quilt batting or basting spray to hold the fabric together bring that too. Bring a sample of prior nice quilting and the feet you use for free motion quilting. Janome Canada has some great educators that a dealer can turn to for aditional help. I'm sure the USA has educators as well. Best of luck and let us know what happens.

Could you please tell me more about this spot to adjust the bobbin winding tension. I'm getting rather spongy bobbins and I'd love to tighten them up a bit. I've wondered about the small screw on the top, left side. That screw is right by the path for the thread and just beside the little diagram of a bobbin. Is that what I use to adjust the bobbin winding tension?
