Hi everyone,

I'm looking to make a duffle coat but am having some trouble finding the duffles (?). Which online retailers are likely to sell them in different sizes/styles? Should I be searching for the word toggle, not duffle? D they often cme in a set or are they something we can put together ourselves?

Can you recommend any good sources for coat fasteners?

Don't search for duffle, as that was the fabric duffle coats were made of.

Search for "wooden toggle", or "toggle fastenings".

They come in sets, or you can make your own by just getting the toggle buttons and using your own cord.

Several years ago (maybe 10ish?), I had a devil of a time finding ready-made toggles to replace a missing one on a blanket coat. Even the local high-end fabric store had to special order them for me, and there weren't a lot of choices.

These days, I always check etsy first. That will take you to results in craft supplies for "toggle." "Toggle clasp" and "toggle fastener" get you mostly jewelry supplies.

Good luck! I love a duffle coat, and the toggles are a big reason why. :)

Last year, when making a wool vest, I found them at JoAnns. I don't know if it is a seasonal thing, but there were two sizes and black and brown ones.

I have way too many yards to count, and I will never use them up, but I will die trying!

I finished off a nice duffle coat this past spring. I found interesting closures at Patterns of Time: https://www.patternsoftime.com/products.asp?cat=1 Should you be interested in how latches look, you can see the completed duffle coat here: http://runamuckweaving.blogspot.com/2013/03/legions-of-latches.html
Good luck with your search. I had lots of fun on the Patterns of Time website!

I think I saw them at Joann in the notions section...not with the buttons.
