I've recently attended two hands on events (Bernina and Janome) at my dealer's shop and plan on attending a Babylock event this month. These classes are presented by Brand Educators/Reps and the dealer provided event machines are TOL and new out of the box for the class. The dealer offers discounts on the "used" machines at the end of the event with only a day or two to buy at the discount. Obviously the 30+ machines are not all purchased in those few days so what do they do with them after the fact? They don't show up in the used/demoed machine area of the dealer's shop?

Shipped elsewhere to be used as class/demo machines? That would explain the short duration of the discount offer.

Sounds like a near-ideal buying situation, to be able to work with the actual machine you'll be getting for a good while, then get a price-cut because it's not new.

Maybe in the back store room of the shop, and only one out on the floor at a time? Maybe as a "used machine" sold on ebay, with of course no warranty?

Maybe donated to local schools (with the accompanying tax write-off)?

Used for demos/workshops that are not "officially" sponsored, and/or replace an older floor model?

Traded between stores? ("Hey, you had that event last month, any chance you can ship me a couple used machines from it?")

I'm guessing it's a mix of all of the above (everyone's suggestions, not just mine, lol).

In my experience, they get shipped back to the distributor or to the next dealer having the event.

Dealers also get offered the "used machines" at great discounts to re-sell as used machines.

A local dealer picks up bunches on them, and offers them as "machines used for a two or three day workshop" with full warranty.

Yes, what PM says. I've bought 2 machines that way and saved bundles.

My local dealer (Viking) gets so many of the machines in for the event, then sells them during the event and for about 2 weeks after for a discounted "event rate". After that, they ship them back to Viking. What the company does with them after that, I'm not sure. Maybe they get shipped to the next event.

That was how I got my B240, from the dealer supplying classes with machines at the Vermont Quilt Festival. I got a deep discount. The machine did not show any sign of use.
