I purchased a Brother PE770 embroidery machine about 9 months ago and after I got over the intimidation factor, I found it was very easy to use only to discover it does not do monograms. I just purchased a preset monogram from Etsy and now found it will not download on my computer and I know I need software in order to download. I had it sent in the pes file form. I was wondering if the basic $100 PE Design software will be enough to transfer these files onto my computer...then onto the thumbdrive, etc. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

If your machine uses a USB stick to transfer files you don't need software to download files to your computer. You do have to unzip your files as the machine can't do that. Your computer won't be able to open the files but you can still copy/paste to USB drive. Monograms are sold as individual letters of the alphabet if you want to lay them out to create a 2-3 letter monogram the PED basic won't do that.

Many people use Embird and other less expensive programs.

Create a folder on your computer and save your downloads to it.

Unzip/extract/open (which ever term your computer's software uses) and save as pes if there is an option and with-in the hoop size of the embroidery machine.

There are many functions you can do without machine embroidery software. Try as many free ones as you can before making a purchase. I also suggest you give Embird a try.

PattiAnnJ, thank you so much for suggesting the tutorial. I went to YouTube and found the most helpful videos but Julie Hesketh, Brand Martin and A Stitch in Time (listing in case there is anyone else as green as I am about transferring design onto computer then onto thumbdrive to embroidery machine). I have renewed hope that I can get some great projects done!

Many many thanks!
