For many years, my wife and I have traveled together for the local (Raleigh, NC) shop hop. We both sew, she on a few-years-old Kenmore; I on a Rocketeer. We enjoy traveling around to the more distant shops - we try to find somewhere interesting to eat and maybe visit used bookstores or thrift shops.

Well, this is the year we'll always remember. We got the call last week from the shop hop organizer. My wife won the Grand Prize - a Bernina 350. Of course, my wife is over the moon.

A friend joked with us that my wife will never get to sew on it because I'll always be on it. Naturally I replied, "Don't be silly. Berninas are nice, but they're no Rocketeer - the Greatest Sewing Machine Ever Built." (That's printed on the cover of the Rocketeer manual.)

Wow! Congrats to your wife, as winning any Bernina is fantastic! I had to look up the Rocketeer since I am not familiar with that one. How cool is that? It must have been ahead of it's time. It reminds me of my first machine years ago, which was also a flatbed. Later on when I realized machines had freearms, I was ready to move on. But I can see why you love your Rocketeer!

Very exciting! Hope she lets you use it once in a while, even though it of course won't compare to your Rocketeer.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

Congrats, super to get such a swell machine as a prize! I'd say "free", but of course, a shop hop costs gas and likely purchases along the way.

🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸

Congrats. We want to see the machine. Will you post a picture for us?

I am a Quilter at heart. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Recently I have discovered I enjoy doing applique. I love making pictures. Using a sewing machine is much easier than counted cross stitch or oil painting for me. I enjoy landscape quilting as well. I am working on my first applique project in the spring of 2014.
