Any idea how to untarnish them?

A long time ago, probably 15 years, I bought a large bag of brass buttons. Half went into a glass jar, the rest into a plastic one. I guess I didn't use them quick enough because all the buttons in the plastic jar have turned green. Does anyone have any idea how to easily remove the tarnish? I'd really prefer not to polish a hundred buttons individually...

Thanks!

Lemon juice and baking soda! I did this with some old brass ornaments that we found in a box in the garage at my grandmother's house when she moved out, it worked quite well.

One woman. One sewing machine. One giant stack of fabric. What could possibly go wrong?

Yep, or vinegar and baking soda. Put it in a jar, add the buttons and let it fizz away. May need to change and wipe down a few stubborn areas.

I was voting vinegar. Plastic is a gift and a curse :)

It does make you wonder, doesn't it. I wouldn't have thought that the plastic would be permeable, but the two jars were in the same drawer in the same conditions with virtually the same contents. I guess I've found a use for all the old pickle jars I've been saving...

Well not me, I'm a chemist I spend everyday pulling my hair out at people who want something analyzed and send it in a plastic bag. Noooo! Lol!

Hopefully you can get them cleaned.
