I refashioned a dress recently without the use of any pattern. In this pattern review I refashioned a long skirt into a dress but used a pattern. So essentially the skirt was donor fabric for the dress.

In this case I'm using a lot of the existing dress as-is and modifying the pockets, ties, length and fit. Can I write a pattern review for it since it's sort of self drafted?

I don't what the PR rules are about this, but I vote 100% YES! I love to refashion garments and I think it can demonstrate as much creativity as using a commercial pattern. I do it all the time and don't write reviews, but only because I have questioned it like you are now. I am curious to what other PR members will say.

I love this idea! Repurposing garments saves the environment, feeds the creative soul, and gives us new clothing to wear.(and maybe new decorative or other useful items.)

I love to see repurposed items also. It would be fun to have that as a review topic some way. However, I love it best when I get to see the both before and after.

A couple years there was actually a refashion contest. Once the lady who won made a dress out of a skirt. The review is here.

It looks like she used self drafted as the designated pattern. I have used self drafted a lot because I mainly sew self drafted - I don't have hardly any commercial patterns as I find it easier to draft my own than to re-engineer someone else's pattern to fit me.

And when it comes to refashion, it is quite likely it has needed a bit of draping and other things to change the one item to another.

I think it would also encourage people to take existing things and repurpose them. Go for it!

Thanks for the contest info. I hadn't seen a refashion contest but I haven't been on PR that long.

At work we all had to list our jacket size as our Christmas gift was a fleece jacket with the facility logo so I put my size down as an XL to accommodate my bust and figured I'd have to take it in at the waist, However they failed to inform us that the jackets are unisex so now I have an XL jacket that is super huge on me at 174 lbs and well endowed and also to big on my hubby who weighs in at about 220 lbs. It is burgundy with a black collar and I think I'm gonna buy some black fleece and refashion it into a more feminine empire waist ruffle edged jacket. I'll try to get some pics of it as I'd like to know what you all think and your ideas on how to refashion it.
Hugs,
Cassie

Welcome Cassie! I hear you on the company clothing sizing. After over a decade, I own 2 company shirts that actually fit me. Needless to say they're all painting/gardening shirts and sweatshirts.

I'm working on Simplicity 1540 view C right now which would work great in a fleece. Definitely post a pic so we can see what you have to work with.
