Hello all!

I've had my gravity feed iron (a Sapporo SP-527) for about a 2 years now. It's still working fine, no problems. But I was curious about cleaning it. I feel like I've read here or there about techniques for cleaning a gravity feed iron (perhaps it was something like running a vinegar through the iron, though that seems iffy) but when I did a recent internet search I couldn't find any information.

Have any of you out there ever cleaned your gravity feed, if so how? Do you have any maintenance that you do regularly with yours? I just want to make sure I'm doing all I can to keep my iron healthy (and have it last many years). Thanks! :)

I've never cleaned my gravity feed iron. I use the resin in the "tank" and I am under the impression that it removes most all the minerals from the water. I've never noticed any build up of calcium in it. I've had mine for about a year and it is still steaming as well as it did to begin with. The one I had previous to this one was never cleaned either and I had had it for several years. I tried to get a part for it, but the company had gone out of business. A part that had to do with the electrical system failed and had nothing to do with any deposits in the steaming part of it.

I've never cleaned mine either. I think it's a good question, though. I will ask the dealer I bought from. I know they have serviced them, so I guess he'd know. I'll report back (Mine is a Sapporo too).
