I just received two large pieces of heavy black wool (probably about 3 yds total, 58" wide) and would like to make a double breasted pea-coat type of jacket/car coat. Can anyone recommend a pattern? Have not seen anything like it in recent patterns.

I like Vogue 2873 by Michael Kors. Unfortunately, it's out of print. I haven't seen pea coat patterns lately either, maybe Burda would have one?

just saw a review teresa ann did of a Craftsy class she took with Kenneth D King- She used Vogue 8884. Her coat was beautiful, and I think it would be lovely in your black wool

There have been several reviews of Vogue 8884 recently. It's on. My list for some darker turquoise coating wool that's been aging forever in my stash. There's a view with more seaming for top stitching opportunities and one with a little less seaming, better for a heavier wool. It's a lovely classic pattern IMHO.

Also, if you go to Message Boards, under the topic Fashion, Styles and Trends, there was a discussion Pea Coats that started on August 31. There are a couple current patterns that might work for you.

I' m just not good copying and inserting links when on my iPad.

Hi, Sunnysewsit!

I have been looking for a pea coat pattern for a while too. I really like an Ottobre pattern, from May 2010 I think, but am too intimidated by the patterns that require tracing.

I recently found McCalls 5816 on eBay.

Now *my* problem is finding a coating fabric I like that is not made of wool!!

There is Kwik Sew 3623, which is only recently out of print.
Simplicity 2508
or Butterick 5685 if you like an exaggerated collar.
