I'm sure I want to use some sort of cotton (since I don't want a knit)...but just not sure WHICH types would be appropriate for men's PJ pants.

And I'm probably limited to Hancock/JoAnn since I am giving these as a gift.

demoiselle has a pattern for husband's semi-opaque PJ bottoms, maybe see what she used? Could start quite a trend

Ha! :)

My mom sews too but really haphazardly. I've warned her about prewashing fabric; she won't do it. She made my Papa some pajama pants that of course, shrank unmercifully the first time they were washed.

So now I'm going to sew him some while simultaneously harassing her for not prewashing!

Personally, I would go with a cotton, linen or cotton/linen blend shirting, or brushed cotton or a cotton flannel if you want to make something a bit warmer. Just make sure if you pick a shirting that it's reasonably opaque!

One woman. One sewing machine. One giant stack of fabric. What could possibly go wrong?

Subject: Favorite fabric source for mens pjs? Date: 10/17/13 10:30 AM

Are these going to be for winter in MN? If so, I'd go with flannel (notorious for shrinking... wash and dry a few times before cutting to sew). Or, go with a pima cotton? You know, that fabulous website love of ours, *cough* FABRICMART, has a sale going on.... LOL

Or if you can find a deal on Liberty of London on Fabric.com and they actually get the fabric to you, that'd be great too (I'm not bitter... Grrrr).

Have fun! I was just looking at PJ patterns for DH the other day, think I will go with the Burda one.

"I'm not bitter" LOL!!!!!

They're going to be for my dad who lives in Georgia.

I wondered if I wanted to use a shirting...I'll have to do some searching today! :)

Quilting cottons can work, too. Again, make sure they're not see through...

Good quality shirting. Men can be surprisingly picky about pj's--mine is still hanging on to his from years ago that are just like a men's shirting fabric. For winter I made him some flannels--but not just any flannel. The flannel is the softest I have ever felt, on both sides, and he likes it.

Oh ,yes! S. R. Harris has a whole row of beautiful men's shirting near the denim's. I got a lovely cotton satin weave blue stripe for PJ's for myself and it made up like a dream. Comes out of the dryer looking like I just ironed it. With the weather getting cold, I think I might drive there to see if they have any more of that wide German flannel they had last year. So cuddly! Good luck!
