Pattern Size for Indie Patterns
Does anyone know how indie pattern companies come up with their pattern sizes?

I know that indie pattern companies use different measurements than the big pattern companies. And each is so different from each other, how do they come up with measurements and sizing?

Here is a list to give you an idea:
Colette
Size 0 = 33 bust/ 25 waist/ 25 hip
size 18 = 46 bust/ 38 waist/ 48 hip

Grainline Studio
Size 0 = 32 bust/ 25 waist/ 35 hip
size 18 =44 bust/ 37 waist/47 hip

Sewaholic
I know that these are designed for pear shapes.
size 0= 30 bust/24 waist/ 36 hip
size 16 = 41 bust/ 35 waist/ 47 hip

Hot Patterns
size 6 = 32 bust/24 waist/ 34 hip
size 26= 52 bust/44 waist/ 54 hip

Anyone know?
TIA

I've always assumed that HotPatterns sizing is intended to broadly match UK RTW sizing, which it resembles very closely. This makes more sense if you happen to know that the designers are British and are ex-retail designers, even though the company is American.

Sewaholic, from what I've heard, is based on the designer's own (pear-shaped) body shape and proportions, tweaked for mass consumption.

One woman. One sewing machine. One giant stack of fabric. What could possibly go wrong?

Thanks Westmoon,

I did know that Sewaholic was for pear shapes but I did not know she used her own proportions as a base.

And I would say that Colette, Sewaholic and Grainline are all close to US/Canadian RTW sizes, which I assume is no accident. By Hand London, in comparison, is closer to UK RTW sizes (runs smaller) and Style Arc is similar (Australian).

I wonder where I could get a copy of these. I'm teaching myself patternmaking and I could a bit of practice with a full set of measurments.

Thank you

Are you looking for a full set of pattern company measurements or RTW size guides?
A quick search turned up various RTW sizing guides from around the world:

RTW Size Guides

I haven't found pattern company size charts all in 1 place.

------
My measurements = 47-35-43. Height = 5ft11in.
RTW size =18 on top, 14/16 on bottom.
Sewing size = 20 and I alter from there.
