I saw some outfits from an animal rescue funding site (for example, Animal Rescue Patchwork Tunic

I liked the idea, especially if you have lots of smaller pieces of material, but do you need to make sure everything has grains going in the exact same directions? All the previous color block patterns I saw, were pretty big blocks. Is there more leeway with smaller bits?

*I am considering buying something from the site either way.
