I just learned my niece is buying her daughter an American Girl Bitty Baby doll for xmas. She posted on FB that she is looking for someone to make clothes. She knows me too well to ask me to do it, but I an thinking about it. I don't want to volunteer and then not come through with the goods. So I have some questions.

I need pattern suggestions and advice on making them.

Is there a same sized cheepy doll I can buy to use as a model? It would kill me to disappoint by the clothes not fitting.

If you have made clothes, please share your tips, things you feel I should know, etc

Not clothes but accessories. A sleeping bag ...which is a big rectangle I used prequilted fabric & sew up the sides & stuff the top like a pillow, also simple bag to use to put clothes in. I just use scraps ... I hope this helps a little.
It has been a while since my niece was that age...

My dd had one when she was little. They are about 15-16" and would probably fit these: Simplicity 15" doll clothes.

Simplicity has several other patterns for 15" dolls, some with accessories and some with modern clothes styles and some with accessory.

Well I picked up a pattern at the McCalls 99 cent sale. Now I could use another favor.

If anyone has American Girl Bitty Baby could you give me some measurements?
Head circumference (for a little cap)
Neck circumference
Chest Circumference
Length of torso, legs, arms
Anything else you suggest?

I don't have the doll and would hate for the clothes not to fit.

Thanks for your help

I don't know if you have checked this already, but you may want to look at Liberty Jane Clothing Patterns. There are more American girl patterns than Bitty Baby patterns. But the one pattern I have made is very well done.

Wow! Thank you!

I just got a request to make clothes for her Bitty Baby for granddaughter, SIL's little girl. This beats buying my own Bitty Baby.

Thanks so much. Very detailed measurements. Someone mentioned that bitty baby measurements were very different than the regular American Girl -- they were so right.

I think it will be fun to make a few things. Started a Pinterest board with ideas from baby clothes, doll clothes, others' babydolls.
