I have several pair of knit pants that I need to shorten. (I buy Talls but then have to take two inches off the length.)
I've been trying to mark the new hems with my various marking pens/pencils and none seem to work very well on my dark knits.
Is there a pen/tool out there that you'd recommend?

I use a Chaco-Liner -- works great on dark colours and on stretchy fabric (knits and spandex).

Clover Chaco Liners -- they come in a variety of colours. This is the the new style -- I also have a couple of the old Slim-line Chaco-Liners but apparently they have been discontinued so the refills soon won't be available.

I have tailor's chalk in various colors: usually white or yellow will work on dark fabrics.

Thin slivers of a well used bar of soap work well.

Yes, I remember using those thin pieces of soap many, many years ago. However, I can't remember the last time I had any bar soap in the house - it's been at least 20 years.
But thanks for responding!

The Chaco-Liners and the Chaco fine line pencils. I found out about the pencils when I was doing a lot with fleece; they both make a mark with a very light touch.

The Mark-B-Gone Company makes a white marker. You'll find it in the Notions sections with the blue, water soluble markers. I've seen them at Walmart as well as Jo-Ann's. Of course, they're available online at various websites. Wawak is the one I'd order from since they normally have the best prices for notions.

Painter's tape for a flat measure. Green has been more visible on darks than blue. I's good for multiple 'sticks'.

Ditto on the Chaco-Liner chalk pens - I use the bright pink, white and yellow on dark knits :)
