Anybody have a clue what this is? A friend speculated that it could be part of a "Serger." I bought it at Goodwill, based solely off the fact that it put me at a loss for words. I cannot find anything on Google, and I have absolutely no ideas.

It looks like a thread tension item. But, I am often wrong, especially when I firmly believe I am totally correct.

Definitely holds thread and the two round sections with numbers on them lead me to believe it is for tension.

being mildly obsessed with knitting machines at the mo I think it looks like a thread/yarn carrier with tension gauges.

I'm thinking I'd enjoy shopping with you :)

Hah, I had no idea what I was getting! I still don't, really. I thought it was some kind of kitchen utensil lol

Thanks for the help everyone. I got more of an idea than I really expected, honestly

This is the thread tension unit for a knitting machine. There is a rod from the knitting machine that it fits into. Looks like it is from an old singer punchcard machineto me.

Artemis - I have done the same thing. Some objects are just too fascinating to pass up!

I agree with Liz, it is from a knitting machine.
