I was thinking of making a cape, and wanted to find an interesting jewel-toned green coating material to make it from. Well, I went to Paron yesterday and FOUND the material I want, but it's $33 per yard. And I need three yards, plus whatever material I choose for lining, plus buttons.

I wish I could justify the expense, but I don't think I can. I guess I keep on looking!

How annoying. Even worse than when you can't find the fabric you have in your head.

Yeah. Though I just saw that Paron is running a very generous Groupon right now . . .

I don't have much of a stash, so I've been having trouble pulling together matched fabrics that I like. I choose a color palate (for example) and then go out and find that those colors are not particularly in fashion right now and I can't find what I had in mind!

Keep your eye on Groupon. Just recently there was a deal for Paron-$20 for $40 worth of fabric, or $40 for $100. Good for 6 months. They may have another deal in the future.

Of course, I succumbed.

I just saw it, and I succumbed, too! I guess I'll be able to make my cape, or something else out of similarly nice fabric!

Can't wait to see your cape. No one said sewing is not expensive The point is to end up with something you want and love.

You'll have to share a picture of your fabric when you get your hands on it. There's a cape thread in the Fashion Trends forum, I'm planning to make a capelet as soon as my pattern from Australia arrives.

I'd like to think I'm saving money... My wool and silk yardages will be about $35 and (in my head) my finished project should cost at least $300 at retail. Gotta love sewer's math.

LOL, I do. I will have to remind myself that when I go to the garment district and buy own fabric I am much more likely to buy pure wool or other natural fibers than I am when I go to . . . well, Marshalls.

So true. We get better fabric than ready to wear. And we DO save money because that couture cape would cost quite a bit
