I think I know what I need to do but I wanted to run it by some more knowledgeable people first.
I made a muslin of a pants pattern using a size 12. Here are the fitting issues:
They are overall too big. Waist, hips, thighs, everything.
The upper thigh areas, both front and back are WAY too big, lots of extra fabric.
The lower derriere area is way too big.
The front waist line come up a bit to high for my liking, but the back isn't high ENOUGH.
Ok, so here's what I plan on altering on the new pattern:
First, use the size 10.
Second, move the inseam line IN (smaller) about 1/4 inch on both the front and back piece to tighten up the thigh/derriere areas. I don't want to do too much b/c I'm already going down a size.
Take about 1/2 inch off the front waist, from the top, being careful to curve to a straight line in the front curving up to meet the height of the side seam on the back piece.
Add about 1/2 inch to the top of the back waist (maybe more, since I just removed a 1/4" from the crotch length when I made the thigh slimmer?
These are going to have a faced waist that I will draft the facing for after I make the pattern.
