Wah. After being sick the month of September, I decided to sew my own mini wardrobe for the month of October. My final item was Butterick 5678.

I muslined this before ( thread ), and then entered a (very) imperfectversion in the fitted shirt contest. I'd cut a 14C and had gaping.

Finished contest shirt:

This time, I made a 14D. I did a 1/2" narrow shoulder adjustment but forgot about my sloping left shoulder. It's so obvious in the back photo. However, I don't know what happened to the front of the shirt!

It overlaps by like 2" at the very top, meets well at the bust and just below and like, doesn't close at all from the waist down. I am ready to throw this whole thing in the trash! As always, any and all help welcomed!!!

(I blacked out my belly button because no one needs to see that...

Hmm, that's weird since you already made this before. Is it the same fabric? Did you make the same size seams?

I just started sewing this pattern today and used your review as a guide. I would normally cut a 14C, but cut a 16C because I plan to use it as a layering shirt. Just cutting a D cup should not have made it not close below the bust! Sorry to say I don't know what happened but will be curious to others input.

speechless...you have 2 options - toss it or start again. Something happened. Maybe you were having a feverous/delerious moment. It's not your fault!! After an epic fail I sew something I know will work to get me over the disappointment.

RIGHT!? I pulled the front pattern piece out today to make sure I didn't cut a size 12...and I didn't gain 5-10 lbs...

I have NO clue what happened. The sad part is, I cut the top in this drapey cotton shirting (not sure if it was really a blend or not - it was a FM deal) and starched it as it was distorting when I cut. Well, the starch killed it.

So I cut it in this grey shirting that actually has a little stretch to it (contest entry was a poly/cotton shirting). I am over this shirt.

When I started it, I accidentally sewed the back side pieces to the front pieces - unpicked. Then I did the front pieces and had puckers at the bust curve - unpicked twice. Then I went to topstitch and it looked horrible - unpicked.

So I finally decided to just base the body of the shirt together to decide if it was worth my time and UGH. I get this. It's hugging the breasts in a weird way and it's being weird and...I give up.

I don't feel bad about throwing in the towel either!

Sorry it didn't work out because it's a very nice looking shirt and it looks really good on you.

NO, NO, NO, Don't throw it out. Make a really cool vest to wear over it! I have a couple of older white blouses I made before the "girls" got bigger. I just wear them with slacks and put on a vest(one that buttons up).

Just a thought about it not closing from the waist down: do you have to do a high waist adjustment on your blouses? If so did you maybe forget to do it on this one? I know that can mean my being able to button a blouse around my hips or not.

I am assuming that you used the 14 D in both front pieces? The 14C fit you last spring. Check the pieces to see if they match. Maybe there is something wrong with the pattern.
I tried fitted shirts last spring for that contest and I couldn't get a shirt to work no matter what I did. It was either way too big or way to small or like you had wierd fitting problems. I think I was using a McCalls and it had the princess seams too. I think you should give it one more go in a cheap fabric. It is so annoying when things like this happen.

So both front pieces were cut as a 14D. I go back upstairs and pull the shirt out of a box and put it on. And it's fine. Seriously.

I don't know if I was somehow extremely bloated or what but it was really, really weird.

My husband says it didn't fit because I was mad at it :)

I will (reluctantly) finish it. (deep breaths)
