Hi, my Babylock evolution serger is consistently sewing with loose loops hanging off the edge of the seam allowance instead of nice and tight. I looked up the problem in their FAQs and it says check the tensions, be sure the thread is through the tension guides, be sure the differential feed is set at N, or be sure the cutting blade width is set correctly. I have checked all of these things and nothing makes a difference but I do not know how to check or change the cutting blade width (is it talking about stitch width?) does anyone know how to do that? Thanks.

Stitch width determines the position of the blade. Change and watch as you are making the change as to what is happening.

Also there is a little dial under the cover with a + and - on it. That can be used to tweek the width of the stitch.

Thanks for the responses! I have tried adjusting the stitch width in and out but regardless of where I set it, the loops still hang off the edge of the seam. Very disappointed with these seams.

make sure the thread is in the tension disks. I have this happen from time to time, and it is almost always because one of threads didn't stay in the tension disk.
when all else fails, unthread everything and start again.

good luck!

Be sure you are using the correct needles also. The Evolutions need the ELX-705 (with or without the CF at the end) for all serging. Not using the correct needle will cause changes in the stitch.

Hi: one way to check your serger is to use a different color thread in the needles and upper and lower loopers.

color of thread upper looper (red)
color of thread lower looper (yellow)
Right needle ( Blue)
left needle (white)
Then run your serger on a length of material.
Then you will see what needs to adjusted.

Call Nancy's Notions sewing advisors. They can often help with things like this.

I have had problems but as previously stated it is usually the threading, the setting of the differential or one time I needed a new knife. I always sew a scrap of the fabric and adjust before starting to get it right.

Make sure you are guiding the fabric straight all the way under the needle and out the back of the foot. If the weight of the fabric or uneven guiding results in a fall or pull to the left you will see this problem. If this is the problem, your sewing width is narrower than your cutting width.
