I brought home my Ovation last week!!! I love love love her. So pretty, so quiet and so many features and possibilities. She is my first new machine since I started sewing again 4 years ago. Everyone else came to me 2nd or 3rd hand, but I simply could not resist. She serges beautifully and I'm working my way thru the stitches and feet. I love the narrow little coverstitch foot and have been having playing with fellers and hemmers and the various stitches. I feel like a princess when I sit with her so I've named her Palace. Hmm good thing she's not one of those Pf... Pfaffs, that name could get tricky.

I really still can't be believe I did it. I kept telling myself I didn't need so much machine and really should get an Evolution or just a coverstitch to compliment my wonderful Bernina serger and there is so much great advice on combo vs seperate machines on the boards. but I know for me this is the right choice. I have physical conditions that limit my sewing time, but this machine is so ergonomically correct for me. The lighting is great for my poor eye sight and the higher bed and harp size help tremendously with my spinal problems.

I don't mind switching between stitches not just because of the jet air threading, but also because threading and re-threading order don't matter. Switching needle is a breeze because of the harp space, the fact that you can see when the needle is seated correctly and the needle screws can't be loosened too much so there's no fear of losing them.

I bought her from Sewing Machines Plus. I know they have a good online reputation, and I can tell you they are a great in-store dealer too. From the minute I walked in the door everyone was welcoming and helpful and I started by looking at a $600 machine. The sales woman was helpful and patient and well informed. When she stepped away for a minute, the owner came over and introduced himself and discussed machines with me ( I was still looking at much lower end machines). They didn't up sale me, I mentioned the Ovation to them. The sales manager really worked with me and gave me a great deal on the package I wanted. I contrast this to my prior dealer experiences and it was night and day. Usually I feel like I need a drink before I brave the dealer.

I, too, just brought an Ovation home. I traded my Evolution for it and have bonded much more quickly with the Big O. :). I really want to try all the techniques on this one because somehow it seems a bit easier to change frm one to another. I really don't see how BL can top this model so maybe they can concentrate on their other machines for awhile. I really love the 22 extra feet and the beautiful carrying case too. Have fun! I know I will.

I have an Ovation, too. I am enjoying learning how to use it and experimenting with all the feet that I got with it as well. I ended up buying one of Nancy's Notions books which she wrote with a BabyLock educator and have been making all the samples from the book. I am very pleased with this purchase.

KPM, I agree a few weeks ago I attended a 3 day babylock event where we used Evolutions. Several attendees including my seat mate brought they're own Ovations so I got a good look and listen at both. I think some thing's contributing to the easier switching on the Ovation are:
--- The larger harp space which facilitate easier needle changes and threading because you're not fiddling in a tight area and can see things better. It is easy to get my hands in to line up the tip of the needle with its opening in the stitch plate. Easier to get the needle threaders thru the eye. Easier to hook the thread loop from the right and tuck it under the foot.
---- Better lighting
---- modified thread guides above the needles
---- new "no lose" needle screws make the task less scary and it seems faster.
---- All needle tops are exposed when properly seated
---- The O is slightly taller than the E - not as much hunching and a peaking
--- Tilted and labeled spool pins
--- Single and labeled thread stand
--- I think the thread guides after the tension slots are further apart because on the O you have to open the front door to thread the first O2 thread guide
--- when you're a princess strolling round the palace who cares how long it takes :D

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this as I only used the Ev that one weekend.

Wendy,
Klinck Klinck sip sip enjoying the big "O"

I think a carrying case should probably come with a weight lifter!
