Hello, just a quick question - is the Janome machines (900 & 1000) the only dedicated coverstitch machines with a free arm? I mainly hem my 4 year old's pants/sleeves. Hemming "in the round" simply does not appeal to me.

thanks in advance!!

(do I dare to dream of turbo threading babylock with a freearm?)

As far as I know it is. But, and I have one, it's too far to the left of the presser foot to be of much use. I do sleeves inside out with the presser foot running on the right side.

Yes, but the freearm part will be too wide for very small hems. The other option is to cover stitch the hem than sew the side seams.

I just do them inside out too. Much easier.

I have the 900 and love it but the freearm is a waste of time.
Just a the others have said. I do everything inside out and it works fine.

Have heard good things about the Janome coverstitch machine, but I love my Babylock, which doesn't have a free arm, but that doesn't matter to me, either. The Babylock is effortless and easy to use, which is worth the extra expense, IMHO.

I've never used it because the location is too far to the left. I prefer to sew my hems, necklines, sleeves, etc. "in the round" because it gives a much cleaner finish to the garment.

Even the hems on small sizes like baby clothes can be accomplished on these CS machines. You just have to reposition the fabric a lot more than usual.
