Hi, I just have a quick question. I've been reading about darts in knits, some say do dart and some say don't dart knits...example tops. I go either way, but wanted to know what others thought. Thanks...happy sewing.

I think it would depend on the style and your cup size. I'm a pretty ample D-cup RTW size 18/20 and if I want a fitted top, even with knits, I'm going to have to do something.

You should do a blog search on Shams's blog. She is, as she refers to herself, uberbusted. She's got some very good advice and tutorials on how to do fba's on knits.
communing with fabric
I usually use a dart in knits, but I've recently used Shams's method of only doing a vertical fba. You decide how much negative ease you want and then add length at the bust, depends on your size, and ease the back into the front at the bust. It worked well on a dress I made recently. I tried to rotate out the dart for a recent top that I was making from my tnt pattern because of the design. This didn't work well. It left a fold that should have been the dart.

I don't think her search is working on the blog. Do you happen to have another link for the FBA?
Thanks

Shams blog search worked for me yesterday but not this morning. I'm familiar with the vertical FBA that Nancy K mentioned. I did find this so hopefully it will help. She has a lot of helpful info there. I've never tried that particular method but plan to on my next top. Good luck.
