After several phone calls & ordering Simplicity scissors twice & getting the wrong ones ... finally JoAnn's hunted the problem down & says Simplicity has been bought out by Singer & there will be no more Simplicity Notions or Scissors. ... they need to fix the website.. it was very confusing. .....
So another buy out... sigh..............
Does anyone wonder what happen to the big antimerger talk that went out not so long ago. .. just me puzzling....
Anyways ... now we know....

I ordered a Simplicity dressform from JoAnn last week. From the emails, everything seems fine, but I sure hope there isn't a hassle! I already hate packing stuff to ship, I certainly don't want to be re-packing a dressform.

More bigness, ugh. Singer is part of the same company that owns Viking and Pfaff. Now they have the Simplicity brand.

Hhhhmmmmmm. From an antitrust position.....verrry curious. I might ask my old professor to let me know his thoughts on it. Perhaps because these are international companies....?

I'm sitting here trying to think and list out the machine brands and who is owned by whom. I don't remember ownership so much but for machines...
Singer
Brother
Elna
Pfaff
Viking
Kenmore
Juki
Janome
Babylock
Bernina

There are a lot. Who owns whom? How is the market defined? Sewing machines? Broken down by machine type? I imagine they'll define it broadly to include sewing, embroidery, sergers, and coverstitch and all, which decreases the amount of market shares the companies can claim...meaning no antitrust issues.

Eta: (dude I totally thought I had Bernina on here.....thanks!)

I figure that one day everything will be owned by one giant company (Like Blue Sun.) With my bad luck it'll be Walmart.

Oh... you forgot Bernina on your list.

I've always wondered how many companies actually make sewing machines. Several big name sewing machine companies have never, or do not now, manufacture any model they sell. Combine that with the Singer/Viking/Pfaff/and who knows who else conglomerate and I have a feeling there are about 4 actual sewing machine makers on the planet.

I know Juki, Brother and Singer/Viking/Pfaff still own manufacturing facilities, but who else still does? Janome, maybe?

Is this true? The people at Joann's know next to nothing, how can we be sure someone at Joann's knew this?
