I asked Cat if she would be interested in teaching a simple applique sew along, starting in the new year. Most of us are way too busy to start before Jan. We could wait until February if some want to wait that long.

I would like a simple project, no larger than a placemat. I want to learn to do applique, and I have no clue what to do. I do not know the foot I need to use, the tension, how to glue it/secure it for sewing and so forth. Cat is totally delighted to do this.

So, how many of us will want to join in the fun?

Oh, Cat, put on your thinking cap and come up with a project that is easy and fun.

I really enjoy quilting. I love to play with fabrics, colors and pictures. I recently discovered how much fun applique can be. As I love making pictures, landscape quilting can be challenging, but seeing the picture come to life is so rewarding.

Hurray! I don't know nothin' bout applique. Thanks Cat and Learn. Maybe we can repost the links that Warbler shared on the Quilt Kit to Rank Beginner thread. Sorry leaving for work and no time to do this now. Will come back to do later if everyone else is busy too. This will such fun! I think eventually I want to do some simple geometric based designs like spirals and radiant suns. No, it's fish and shells, no a jungle scene. Oh I forgot I know nothing and must walk before I can run! I do like my diversions.

Ok then! We will do this!

A project is going to be hard to pick, because we all have such diverse tastes.

Do we want to ALL work on the same thing? Or each pick our own?

And there is more than one way to applique. I like to stitch mine down by machine. My hand stitching is not the best, and my machine does a stellar job of it.

I know even with the same design that projects will be different. We will choose different fabrics from each other.

I am thinking of a flower design with a stem and leaf. The flower pedals would be rounded. If this is too hard, and I do not think it will be, then we need more suggestions. All I want is a taste of a simple design to see if i love it like you do.

Well florals are DEFINITELY my favorites, so I would LOVE a nice floral design.

We could just do one block. Then it could be used for whatever someone wanted. A placemat, a pillow, a quilt block, a wallhanging, etc.....
