What would be flattering for a not-so-young figure?

Hi everyone: have a party coming up in mid-December with a retro theme, and we're encouraged to dress accordingly. I'm drawn to the "decades of style" patterns, particularly the 1920's ones, see Decades of style, particularly the Hazel's Frock, Tieriffic, and others. Not so sure how flattering those would be on my figure (39-34-44). The Butterick-Vogue collection, which are more pouffy-skirt oriented, might be better, but I don't like them quite as much. So, any advice would be welcome

Possible that since this is a one time event, I should just sew what I like, and grin and bear it if it's not the best choice for me. thx

How about Hazel frock without the trim with the kimono sleeve tunic? With a good slip, that would look great and age appropriate. IMO.

I love the twenties styles too.

Thanks, those are helpful suggestions... a good slip can solve a lot of problems

I like 2501 with the fringe. I'd love to have the opportunity to wear fringe. If the fringe were detachable, it would be a nice dress any time.

Oh, I love the sleeveless Hazel dress with the trim. It looks like it would be fun to wear.

I am roughly your size and age 58 which is old enough to decide for myself what is "age appropriate."

I love everything on that page and wouldn't hesitate to make and wear any of them on a day to day basis: they are classics.

I've quit fighting my inner demons. We're on the same side now.

It's just fabric; we can out-think it.

I would pick the zig zag dress, it would be very flattering and it is picking up on the current trend direction for, "fit and flare skirts".
Tierrific would also be good. The Hazel frock while cute, wold not get as much after use, it is more of a costume.

Ha, you are right! But it's fun to have the conversation. I'm leaning towards the one with the fringe, but haven't committed yet, and will definitely come back with pics. thanks everyone!
