I'm cancelling my FoPR membership effective January 1 (dinosaurs gotta roam, ya know!!) and being as I'm going to lose my Wish List, as well as my pattern catalog, I'd like to know some of your favorite, easiest all time patterns so that I can incorporate them into my Wish List before it goes away. Then I'll look them over via your reviews and make a decision. (too bad I don't have another book to give away...)

So tell me, what are they? I really like soft, easy, flowing styles with little fuss, but room for embellishment. A pair of nice trousers is fine. Most of my socializing is with friends, and I go out once in a while. I also present yearly papers to a group of women (last two contests had me wearing a suit--but I don't want to continue that trend)

I'm over 60, and happily grey. I guess you could say I'm pear shaped (mostly an inverted triangle). B39-40, HB37ish W32-33 H43 or so (love the code!)

I'm not into the Big 4, but if you can convince me I should be, then press on. I'd like to know why you like it, and if you had any problems with it. Lutterloh is fine, but please tell me what year and supplement number your pattern is from.

Blogs are fine, links to reviews are fine too (saves me time looking you and them up!).

Thank you!

You must have a well fitting tee. That is the most versatile pattern to own. Fabrics and necklines change the entire garment.
My favorite is Pamela's Pattern perfect tee because it is shaped for my body type, narrow shoulders, ample bust, shaped side seams.

Subject: Whats your favorite all time pattern and why? Date: 11/30/13 10:50 AM

I have made dozens of blouses from an old Vogue pattern #1878 which was a Calvin Klein selection of blouses. It works for wovens and for stable knits. Since I love buttons this is better for me than a pullover top. I think it is still my favorite! I have many patterns (MANY) but I usually decide on a tried and true. Anything Loes Hines & Textile Studio I have found to fit my pear shaped body with little effort. I am to the point of little effort also and hopefully you won't roam tooooo far and continue posting, we will miss you! I always enjoy reading your posts & great suggestions & advice. I understand you letting the membership go as I dropped my PR membership a year ago as I don't get on here like I used to due to too much to do!

Loes Hinse patterns are timeless and easy to sew. I'm the same demographic as you. Try the European Pant pattern. It's a real TNT. I've made it with a front zipper (easiest front zipper application ever), with an invisible back zipper, and with a simple elastic waist. I've made woven, stretch woven, and knit versions, and altered the leg width as styles have changed. This pattern is slimming because it is drafted to fall straight from the hip.

Loes' Perfect Tee is another TNT for me, with lovely neckline and sleeve choices. I've made it in a whole range of fabrics, from simple rayon Lycra jerseys to sequined knits.

She also has a number of timeless unlined jackets that are successful in so many fabrics. The first one I tried was the Bolero Jacket in a black wool boucle with an artistic button and loop closure. It was one of the garments I made at her 4-day seminar about 6 years ago. I still have and wear it, and it's a classic.

I enjoy several of the independent pattern companies but, at this point in my life, if I had to choose just one pattern company to keep in my stash, it would be this one. Just don't be put off by the pattern cover photos, as they really don't do this pattern line justice.

Sorry to see you leave PR, Miss Fairchild.

If you're pear shaped, then you should definitely have some Sewaholic patterns in your wardrobe. The Renfrew is my go-to basic tee, and last month I got the Hollyburn skirt, which is a FABULOUS basic. It's the perfect basic skirt, plus I've found that it works wonderfully when attached to pretty much any bodice that's fitted at the waist, both wovens AND knits.

Stretch and Sew #130 for knits or wovens

Style Arc pants particularly the Linda and Barb designs

Louise Cutting's Perfect Blouse Old, now OOP, but apparently still available here. Still getting requests for more of these shirts from my mother and sister. Dressy fabrics, sheers, quilting cotton, denim - everything works.

Love that one, BrendaR. If I can find it in a 16, I'll buy it. Really love the drapeyness and the way the neckline falls. I could see it in a white batiste with tiny buttons down the front, like a henley.

I'll look into Pamela's Patterns, KathySews. I'm pretty happy with the Silhouette tee, but I'm always open to new ones.

Aw, shucks, Restart06. That's so sweet of you to say! I'll post once in a while. Just bought my coverstitch and I want to play with it more.
