I recently received an email outlining the new color coding for Schmetz needles. They will have 2 bands. The top one is for type of needle, the bottom one is size.

The Chart is their web site with a downloadable chart.

What I am most excited about is the needle app. It has a section for selecting Needles by Fabric Type. I must be patient and wait for the Android version but it looks like the i-----s are in luck See it Needle App

Happy sewing

Thank you, Kathy! I can never find needles for my Coverpro at JA. At least searching should be faster and easier if I can remember the color combo to look for.

Thanks for the info!
I downloaded the app and they really need to update with more fabrics! There don't seem to be any woolens for instance, which is very odd.

Awesome, thanks so much for this info. I'm getting to the point it's harder and harder to read the sizes on these things. The magnifying glass doesn't even help anymore. I have found that I'm using the Microtex for a lot of my sewing. It goes through all kinds of stuff. I don't app, but sure glad to see this new color coding...

That's so flippin awesome! I can't read those dang embossed sizes on the needles anymore..in fact, I think they are shallower than those needles of old. I found a pack of Schemtz I had bought over 10 yrs ago and it was easier to see the print on it.
I once tried a self made color system using sharpies, but don't always get around to keeping up with it. Seems like I got the idea from a Threads mag or something.
As for after I've used a needle and need to change out, I like those pincushions that have sections labeled. That helps a little.
I have a dedicated magnifying glass in my sewing area these days, but colors would be faster. Singer needles had colors, but I've not used them in years.

Many thanks, should be one of the best things since Sliced Bread, as they say! Let's hope it's not years before they reach our stores Down Under!
