So, after purchasing a bunch of Burda patterns at the recent JA sale, I input them into my spreadsheet as usual and decided to see how many patterns I have.

The total is at 403 and that doesn't include anything in magazines or books (not that I have a ton of those, but add prolly another hundred I would guess).

I'm curious how this stacks up against more prolific sewers. How many printed patterns do you have?

I stopped counting around the 400 mark, not including historical repros, burdas, books,

My spreadsheet tells me I'm at 599 with printed patterns, and 182 with magazines. I plan to be doing a major purge of my patterns in 2014 (mostly my Simplicity, Butterick and McCalls- the Vogue, Kwik Sew and indie patterns are here to stay). They'll have to pry my magazines out of my cold dead hands though.

I don't know how many, but "tons." Including most issues of Burda pattern magazine going back to 1997. I LOVE my pattern collection, I'm never at a loss for inspiration!

If you do not count one year of Burda, Ottobre Woman since the beginning, and Lutterloh, I have about 25-30 envelope patterns. I only keep the equivalent of one year of Burda. The rest move on.

All total, I have a little over 1400. Add another 1000 at least for magazines, Lutterloh and similar systems, books and various drafted ones.

Mine includes a large vintage pattern collection dating from the early 1900s, however.

more than 700.

I have also donated about 120 in the last few weeks. I have tried about 20 patterns in the last month that didn't work for me so they have gone too.

For the last few years I only buy new patterns if I desperately want them.

Vintage patterns are welcome anytime.

More than I can ever hope to sew, I'm afraid. I have kept every pattern, but one, that I've ever sewn. Some came from my mother (mid-60's that she made when I was young). I have a small group that were from my friend's grandma's estate - Polynesian Patterns. When I worked in a fabric store in the late 70s, I scored a lot of discounted patterns. When I discovered that Vogue patterns can be easily bought on-line, I went a little crazy during the sales, especially with the designer patterns. Overall, I estimate more than 600 patterns in 40+ years of sewing. When I realized that I probably won't live long enough to sew them all - and I'm only 51 now, so it's a sobering number of patterns - I resolved to buy fewer. I can claim only modest success for this goal as of now. So far DH hasn't figured it out, because some are expat with me and most are still in storage. I don't think he reads PR boards... ;)
